Privacy Policy
The short version
- Your recipes, folders, notes, ratings and photos stay on your device. We don't have accounts, and we can't see your library.
- When you import a recipe from a link, your device downloads that page and its photo directly from the recipe website, which sees your IP address as any website you visit does. The link isn't sent to us; we don't run a server.
- The app doesn't use AI services. Your recipes, links and photos are never sent to one.
- No ads, no analytics, no tracking, and we never sell data.
This policy explains what information Mise (“the app”), made by Jon Lee (“we”), handles and why. It applies to the app on iPhone and iPad.
Information stored on your device
Everything you save in the app is stored locally on your device, including recipes, folders, ingredient checkmarks, notes, ratings, “cooked it” dates, photos you add and photos downloaded with imported recipes. This data is not sent to us or synced to any server we operate. Like other app data, it's included in your device's iCloud or computer backups if you have those turned on.
If you delete the app, this data is deleted with it. If you use the export feature, the backup file is saved wherever you choose, and you control it from there.
Importing a recipe from a link
When you paste or share a web address into the app, your device loads that page directly from the recipe website, reads the recipe data the page publishes, and saves the recipe on your device. If the recipe has a photo, the app downloads it from the address the page gives for it, which may be the website's own image server or a service the website uses to host images.
The website, and the site that serves its photo if that's a different one, sees an ordinary request from your device, including your IP address, and handles it under its own privacy policy. If you use iCloud Private Relay, note that it hides your IP address in Safari but doesn't cover these requests. The app downloads only the page and its photo, not the ads, scripts or trackers the page would load in a browser, and it deletes any cookies the website sets once the import finishes. The address is never sent to us: we don't operate a server for the app.
Device permissions
- Camera and photos: used only when you choose to attach a photo to a recipe. Photos you add are kept on your device and never uploaded to us; they leave it only if you share them or export a backup.
- Clipboard: when you open From a link, the app checks whether you've copied a web address so it can fill it in for you. iOS asks before the app can read something you copied in another app. The app doesn't read the clipboard at any other time, and nothing from it leaves your device unless you import that link.
- Notifications: used only to alert you when a cooking timer you started finishes.
You can change these permissions at any time in your device's Settings.
Sharing
When you share a recipe or shopping list, the app hands it to the iOS share sheet, and you choose where it goes. We don't receive a copy.
What we don't do
- We don't require an account or collect your name, email or contact details.
- We don't use analytics, advertising or tracking tools.
- We don't use AI services, and we never send your recipes, links or photos to one.
- We don't sell or rent any information.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update it on this page and change the effective date above. Significant changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
